Occurring in the Pixar Universe, the Grown UP versions of Russell and Boo, accompanied by Disney’s Raya, embark on a quest to assemble a magical set of armor based on Vietnamese folktales to stop Jack-Jack from destroying the wilderness.

The George Mason University Vietnamese Student Association
GMUVSA or the Vietnamese Student Association at George Mason hosts multiple large and small events throughout the year to promote culture, team bonding, and personal development for our members. We serve our members, our community, as well as other Vietnamese Student Associations on a regional and national scale. Our mission is to instill the traditions and transitions of our Vietnamese-American culture, build on personal and career skills sets, and give back to the larger community with our philanthropic efforts.
In efforts of achieving this mission, among other things, GMUVSA annually organizes a Culture Show that increases awareness of Vietnamese American culture throughout the greater DMV area and empower the next generation of Vietnamese Americans by showcasing cultural elements including, but not limited to, language, food, history, folklore, music, fashion, and dance.
This year, GMUVSA’s 2023 Culture Show, Grown UP: Ký Ức Vĩnh Cửu, features its first return to an in-person auditorium after the COVID-19 pandemic. While the show is free to attend, all proceeds from concessions and raffling will be donated to our annual Collective Philanthropy Project: One Body Village. Join us in experiencing a night full of everlasting memories on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Bedinger Auditorium in W.T. Woodson High School.

Who can attend Culture Show?
Our show is publicly open! The plot of Grown UP: Ký Ức Vĩnh Cửu, is designed to be enjoyable for people of all ages, genders, and ethnic backgrounds. While a majority of the production will be in English, each scene will be accompanied by a Vietnamese summary that audience members can read to follow along with the show. The production is also open to individuals outside of the Vietnamese-American community who seek to learn more about Vietnamese culture and traditions.

Do I need to RSVP?
Yes, you will need to RSVP in order to attend Culture Show. This will ensure that we have an accurate headcount and can make the necessary preparations for our production. Please make sure to RSVP through our RSVP link as soon as possible, as spots may fill up quickly. Sponsors and special guests will be provided with a promo code in order to have their seats reserved ahead of time.

Attending our Culture Show is the easiest way of supporting GMUVSA and the Culture Show. Be sure to use the RSVP link to reserve your ticket before the show.
For GMU students and alumni who wish to participate in the show, reach out to our organization for more information. You do not need to be in the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) to participate in the show.

Does Culture Show cost money?
No! GMUVSA promotes inclusivity by making attendance at Culture Show completely free of charge. Concessions, raffle tickets, and merchandise will be available for sale prior to the show when doors open, as well as during our intermission. All proceeds from sales will be donated to our Collective Philanthropy Project: One Body Village.

What is the Collective Philanthropy Project?
Every academic year, UNAVSA selects a new Collective Philanthropy Project (CPP) for VSAs to dedicate our efforts and funds to. This 2022-2023 academic year will be dedicated to The One Body Village. The mission of the One Body Village is to improve the lives of high risk and sexually exploited children by giving them shelter, education, medical care, psychological counseling and vocational training and to prevent child sexual exploitation by educating and empowering communities to be catalysts for change.
One Body Village, founded in 1999, is a non-profit organization that aims to rescue, restore, and rebuild the lives of sexually exploited children in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam and Cambodia. One Body Village's name was derived from an African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child”, which means that it takes an entire community of different people interacting with children in order for a child to experience and grow in a safe environment. In partnership with One Body Village Canada and One Body Village Vietnam (known as Nhip Cau Hanh Phuc), they deliver programs aimed at rescue, restoration, and prevention of child sexual exploitation. This year, OBV's project is to help the child survivors of sexual abuse and exploitation regain their human dignity and realize their self-worth, and restore their self-esteem through art therapy.
